Cooling in vacuum forming

Our business - Vacuum forming process

Cooling before post-processing

Preparing vacuum formed components for the final production stages

Cooling after forming

Cooling is the fifth and final step in the vacuum forming process. After forming, the material is cooled before the tool is lowered and the component is removed from the machine.

The cooling stage helps the material maintain its shape before the product moves on to post-processing and finishing operations.

Preparing components for post-processing

Once cooling is complete, the vacuum formed component is ready for the next production stages. Depending on the application and product requirements, this can include trimming, finishing or additional processing before the final component is completed.

After cooling, the component is prepared for post-processing and final adjustments before becoming a finished product.

Supporting consistent final results

Controlled cooling is an important part of the vacuum forming process and helps support consistent results throughout production.

Surface finish, shape and overall component quality can all be affected by how the material behaves as it cools after forming.

The Vacuum Forming Process

In vacuum forming, a plastic sheet is heated until it becomes pliable, then it is sucked onto a mold using vacuum to take its shape

1. Forming tool

The tool is placed in a vacuum forming machine.

2. Heating

The sheet is heated from both the top and bottom to a temperature between 170 and 210 degrees Celsius before forming.

3. Pre-blowing

The warm and soft sheet is inflated, and the forming tool is raised toward the plastic material.

4. Vacuum forming

With the help of vacuum, the plastic material is shaped over the forming tool.

5. Cooling

After cooling, the tool is lowered, and the product is then ready for post-processing.
